Other Organisations

As well as our tandems, that are free to borrow from us and details of which you can find on our homepage, there are other organisations that hire or lend bikes and/ or give rides to people with special needs.  Some of them are listed on the following sites CyclingUK and ActiveMyWay and some are listed below: the list below runs roughly north-south in the UK.  Also, if you need a bike to pull along a tag-along then try this list too for Free Bike Hire.

Scotland, Northern Ireland and the North of England

Picture
Cycling Scotland and Free Wheel North have disability cycling centres and Talking Tandems in Fife and VIE Velo in Edinburgh and the Lothians give rides to blind people.  Maryland Wheelers, RNIB, WATCH and Ride & Speak organise rides in Northern Ireland.   Gateway Wheelers, Cyclops and Watchtree Wheelers are based in the North of England and have a range of interesting bikes and trikes.  Moors Mountain Biking and Open Country give tandem rides for a cost.  Arden House Hotel in Harrogate has a tandem for free hire and Streetbikes near Leeds and Sheffield Cycling 4 All have a range of special needs bikes..   Bury Tandem Club, Tandem Trekkers and Beech Holme Tandem Club give rides to visually impaired people.  Cycling Projects: Wheels for All have an impressive range of centres across mainly the north of England for people with disabilities.  Simply Cycling in Manchester, Your Trust in Rochdale and Give it a Spin in Cheshire have a variety of bikes for disabled people.  T-4-3 Tandem Hire near Blackpool are willing to lend tandems and triplets for a day at a time to people with special needs for a very nominal charge. Bradbury Fields takes blind people for rides in Liverpool.

Wales and the Midlands and South of England

Coventry Vista and CamSight organise rides for the blind and visually impaired and G-Whizz give rides to people with any disability.  Ridewise in Nottingham and Adapted Sports Hub in Norfolk have a range of bikes.   Bicyclelinks in Norwich has rear-steer tandems.  Life Cycle and RoRo, based in Bristol, Strawberry Cycles in Somerset, Wheels For All and Goals Beyond Grass in Gloucester and WFA Oxford also have a range of adapted bikes to use and give rides, as does Tandemonium in Cheltenham. The video here shows how much fun autistic people can have on tandems.  The Pedal Power Project, based in Cardiff and BikeAbility Wales in Swawsea have a range of adapted cycles.  Companion Cycling, Wandsworth Council and Wheels4Me, based in London, and WheelPotential in Kent have a range of adapted cycles and organisations linked with Greater London Fund for the Blind and Seeability organise rides for the blind and visually impaired.

Elsewhere

Breton Bikes in France lend tandems to eligible Stokers, as do Charlotte's Tandems US in the USA.

You might like consider riding in the Special Olympics.

Companies such as TomCat, Mission Cycles, Ashfield Special Needs Ltd, Quest88 and GetCycling sell bikes specifically for disabled people.  An alternative for people who might not be able to balance on a normal bike saddle might be a back rest on one of our normal tandems or tag-alongs.
